项目摘要

The proposed research program focuses on the developments of new techniques and technologies for processing state-of-the-art remote sensing image data to facilitate the analysis and engineering applications of data captured by different remote sensing sensors. The work proposed will initiate fundamental research for the use of data captured by optical sensors with data collected using the Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) sensors. In particular, the research will contribute to the development of new algorithms and mathematical models that address the problem of geometric and radiometric correction of the data collected by different remote sensing sensors, particularly the newly developed multi-spectral LiDAR sensors. The program proposes the development of a genetic algorithm for image registration to geometrically correct and match data acquired by different sensors. The program further explores the radiometric correction and utilization of data collected by multi-spectral LiDAR sensors and methodologies for image data processing for information extraction. The proposed research not only will develop intelligent data processing tools for remote sensing, which can potentially lead to technology transfer, but also apply the developed techniques to serve several emerging environmental and modelling applications. The proposed research program is one of the leading programs in the world using the newly developed multi-spectral LiDAR sensor technologies. The outcome of the work will advance Canada as a technology hub for new remote sensing technologies, particularly for the existing research boom in LiDAR data processing and contribute to Canadian sustainable infrastructure development through its support to the geo-information industry.
