Thermal management of the power electronics devices in an electric vehicle inverter is a critical factor that influences cost, size,**efficiency and reliability of the system. Liquid cooling is a viable option for this purpose. However, for peak power operation, the**existing liquid cooling system must be optimized. The present day liquid cooling system consists of an array of cylindrical extended**surfaces that are immersed in a cooling channel through which the coolant is circulated to extract heat. Prior to making changes to**the existing system, it is necessary to understand the performance of the present system. To this end, computational modelling of**the liquid cooling system will be carried out. The flow and heat transfer within this system will be analyzed. Improvements will be**made to the existing system based on this analysis. The improved designs will be computationally investigated to evaluate its**performance. The objective of this proposal is to improve the thermal performance of the present liquid cooling system, thereby**enabling more efficient use of the power electronics components in an electric vehicle inverter.
