英文摘要
This project will investigate a novel way to extract copper from relatively small deposits of copper ore, deposits that are usually too small for big companies to exploit. This research will look into the two processes, one that dissolves the copper from the ore and a second process in which pure copper can be produced as high-purity crystalline material by reacting the copper in solution with iron bars under carefully controlled conditions. By using a "green" strategy that uses little energy with a modular plant that can easily be mobilized and, when the ore body is worked out, can easily be transported to another site. A second part of this research will seek ways in which more difficult ores, such as the ones found in Northern Ontario can be treated to extract copper and other metals, such as nickel, cobalt, and gold. The process, which uses low-cost materials to perform the extraction and precipitation of pure copper, is being developed in conjunction with Brock University professor Ian Brindle, who has helped other companies to improve processes and to develop new technologies. This project will create jobs close to the ore bodies, which often are found in remote locations, where employment rates are relatively low.**
