Phytoplankton cells support marine productivity, elemental cycling and atmospheric composition. Over the coming CRC term Campbell aims to implement high throughput experiments and data analyses to quantify how phytoplankton respond to the fluctuating light, nutrients, natural toxins, and temperatures which are imposed by water mixing, daily and seasonal cycles. Campbell generates quantitative understanding of these responses, and how they limit the current and future distributions of different phytoplankton groups. Trainees will gain transferable habits of mind on the planning, capture, analyses and presentation of parallel, high throughput data.
