Canada has vast reserves of fossil-fuel energy resources sufficient for satisfying the energy needs of Canadians for a long time to come. But the energy production sector is also responsible for heavy emissions of carbon dioxide, which contribute to climate change. Therefore, it is vitally important that we develop innovative solutions that allow us to continue using our energy resources while mitigating the adverse environmental impact of their production and utilization. The proposed research program addresses this need by developing an information technology infrastructure for enhancing efficiency of process systems in the petroleum, carbon capture, and environmental management industries.
