英文摘要
Road bridges have deck slabs made of concrete and steel rebar. These deck slabs have 50-100 mm thick top**overlay made of regular cement concrete which is usually called as plain cement concrete or PCC. Overlays are**used to protect steel reinforcement (rebar) of the bridge deck slab from corrosive salt and harsh weather and**also to improve rideability. However, a PCC overlay creates many problems such as cracks, delamination, and**potholes since a PCC is a brittle (non-bendable) material. These cracks and potholes allow salt and other**deleterious chemicals and materials to ingress through the concrete and corrode steel rebar. Hence, the concrete**layer swells and delaminates off the bridge deck causing safety concern to the vehicles and the passengers. This**project will develop a suitable bendable and durable concrete material known as engineered cementitious**composite (ECC). Facca Incorporated will use this ECC as the bridge overlay which will offer resistance to**cracks and potholes. Hence, the project will give Facca Incorporated a competitive edge over its competitors.**Thus, Facca Incorporated will find a real opportunity to expand their business and possibly create new jobs in**the Windsor-Essex area of Ontario. The work is scheduled to be completed in six months after its approval.**Two students will be hired and trained and these two students will execute the project. With this training, these**students will be able to reduce Canadian skilled labour shortage.
