Space exploration is very important in furthering our understanding of our place in the universe. Furthermore, space exploration is at the forefront of driving technological development, which often has beneficial spin-offs for technological advancement on Earth. The next steps in the global space exploration effort are the development of a Deep Space Habitat in the lunar vicinity, as well as further exploration of asteroids, with eventual goal of a human mission to Mars. This research program addresses important spacecraft dynamics and control challenges that are needed to enable these future space exploration missions.
