This project deals with the development of a system for constructing deck slabs for highway bridges that are**lighter, faster to construct, more durable, and more economical than conventional deck slabs built of**cast-in-place concrete. Using the proposed system, deck slabs are assembled from modular prefabricated panels**constructed from ultra high-performance concrete (UHPC). This is a new material that improves on**conventional concrete by offering higher compressive strength, a reliable tensile strength, and extremely low**permeability. This enables the deck slab panels to be composed of a relatively thin slab with monolithic ribs in**two orthogonal directions, thus making the panels significantly lighter than conventional solid deck slabs.****The work to be accomplished in this project is to determine the most optimum dimensions for the concrete**panels and arrangement of reinforcement. This will be accomplished by analytical and experimental means,**including full-scale load tests.
