英文摘要
Amongst infectious diseases, canine parvovirus is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in dogs.**Infection results in fever, vomiting, dehydration, and diarrhea. Untreated, most dogs will die from the infection.**Current therapies rely on high-cost supportive therapies, such as blood transfusions, IV feeding, and 24-hour**care at veterinary hospitals. Canine parvovirus infections are very costly to dog owners, which includes a third**of Canadian households. NovoBind Livestock Therapeutics Inc. proposes to develop novel antibody-based**strategies that could be provided to dog owners to prevent canine parvovirus infections or be available to**veterinarians as a therapeutic to be administered to infected dogs. Currently, novel canine parvovirus-specific**antibodies (NBXs) are being generated by NovoBind. This proposal relies on the expertise of Dr. Nelly Panté**and her laboratory in the fields of parvovirus biology and cell biology. The work described here will provide**proof-of-concept that NovoBind's strategy can block canine parvovirus infectivity and will enable NovoBind's**eventual selection of the best antibodies against canine parvovirus. The development of prophylactic and**therapeutic products targeting canine parvovirus would benefit all dog owners as they will provide faster and**more economical options for dealing with canine parvovirus. The revenue generated by NovoBind in delivering**this product would also be an economic boost to Canada as would the recovery of lost productivity that occurs**when dog owners must forgo work to care for their dogs.
