Tissue products are used in every day life. While the demand for printing and writing paper declined over the years, demand for tissue products is growing with rapidly expanding markets in Asia and South America. However, scientific knowledge of tissue manufacturing processes, particularly on dry creping, is scattered and still in its embryonic stage. Intense competition in this industry sector precludes the sharing of scientific knowledge gained by each manufacturer from painstaking experimentation. On the other hand advancements in the understanding of buckle-delamination mechanics, relevant to creping process, are yet to be applied in a rigorous and industrially relevant setting. This proposal seeks to contribute to this task through a systematic modeling and experimental approaches. Fundamental understanding of creping in tissue making using mechanistic models and experiments on lab scale and commercial scale pilot machine is the overarching goal of this project. Development of a validated model built from first principles will be a significant contribution to the knowledge base of Canadian tissue industry. The key strength of this project is in the partners. Forest Product Innovations (leading Canadian not for profit forest products innovator), Solenis Canada (creping chemical supplier) and Kruger products (leading Canadian tissue maker of popular brands such as Purex and Cashmere tissues) are the participating organization contributing significant financial and technical resources to accomplish the goals of this project.********
Forest Product Innovations(加拿大领先的非营利森林产品创新者)、索理思加拿大(起皱化学品供应商)和Kruger products(加拿大领先的普雷克斯和羊绒纸巾等知名品牌纸巾制造商)是参与组织,为实现该项目的目标贡献了大量的财政和技术资源。
