The research in this project aims to assist in the solution of a problem faced by Autosystems (a division of**Magna Exteriors Inc.) and related to identifying the presence of an anti-fog film coating the interior of acrylic**lenses utilized in automotive housings. While in the case of polycarbonate lenses visual inspection under**fluorescent lightning allows trained personnel to establish the presence or not of the required coating, the same**methodology does not work when the lens is constructed of acrylic material. The uOttawa team will use its**expertise with optical materials in order to discover a new approach, based on fluorescence or other optical**properties, that will allow rapid anti-fog film detection by trained personnel under a variety of field situations,**including the manufacturing setting, or latter, in which case the method will be required to operate under a**variety of environmental and climatic conditions.
