The primary objective during this CRC term is to play a leading role in, and provide a Canadian contribution to, the advancement of the Far-Infrared instrumentation needed for near-term and long-term future Far-Infrared astrophysics space missions. This involves direct participation in the development of the Canadian contribution to the European/Japanese Space Infrared telescope for Cosmology and Astrophysics (SPICA) mission. It also involves exploration and advancement of spectroscopic and interferometric techniques in support of a long-term Far-Infrared spatial/spectral interferometry space mission. Finally, this involves the development and mechanical/thermal/optical characterization of space-qualified cryogenic materials and components including carbon-fibre composite materials.
