The metals and minerals industries are heavily dependent on water, one of the most precious resource for**day-to-day life of human being. In gold processing plants water is extensively used where low grade ores are**customarily treated with cyanide leaching. The slurry tailings of the process are stockpiled in tailing ponds**where the stored water accounts for the largest unavailable water in the mining process.**Goldcorp has launched an aspiring water reduction strategy with the ultimate goal of leading the metals and**mineral industries in exceedingly reducing water consumption and eventually eliminating the use of traditional**slurry tailings.**With the final goal of developing alternative processes for extracting gold with lower water consumption, the**current proposal investigates gold recovery via chloride volatization. The efficiency of the volatilization**process will be examined under various operating parameters. The outcome of this project will provide a path**towards reducing the water consumption in gold extraction process. The process is specifically favorable for**regions with water scarcity and can significantly reduce the water pollution associated with gold extraction.
