Through the first term of the Chair programme, Professor Worswick has developed effective methods to accurately predict the behaviour and performance of lightweight materials and automotive structures during manufacturing and impact events. The next term will see development of new fundamental knowledge and technologies related to warm forming processes as well as the in-service (crash) response of lightweight components fabricated from advanced aluminum and magnesium alloys. Similar to the first term, the Chair-funded core research will be applied within large-scale industry-sponsored projects, thus directly impacting the way next generation lightweight, crashworthy vehicles are designed and manufactured.
