Mobile wireless devices are continuing to become more pervasive as personal computing platforms. However,**these devices are inherently resource-limited due to their small physical size. New technology in mobile**computation offloading (MCO) has made it possible to augment the computation capability of mobile devices**for supporting emerging computation-intensive applications by offloading part or all the computation loads**from mobile devices to resourceful cloud servers.**Acentury Inc. is a telecommunication manufacturer and solution provider. The company has developed its own**solutions of mobile cloud computing (MCC) and mobile edge computing (MEC) through MCO, and their**current products mainly serve independent mobile users. Meanwhile, the company is facing increasing**demands for supporting multi-user applications (MUAs) in mobile devices.**One challenging issue for the company is to support computation-intensive and time-sensitive MUAs, which**limit computation offloading to only edge servers near the mobile devices. Due to the multi-user nature, the**offloading service quality to all the users should be jointly considered, which can be very complicated. The**movement of any users can affect service quality of the entire application. Switched edge servers as users move**around to keep maintaining service proximity is another challenging issue in the multi-user environment.**The objective of this project is to design schemes and protocols needed to effectively support real-time MUAs**for mobile wireless users. The outcome will become critical enabling technologies that complement the**company's existing strength in mobile networking solutions. It will also be important to the Canadian**telecommunication industry by positioning it in the forefront of mobile service technology development.
