Nanocrystalline metals (i.e., metals with nanometer-scale grains) made by electroplating or electroforming are**generally limited to binary alloys, for example Ni-Co and Ni-Fe alloys. Their main drawback is that the poor**thermal stability of such alloys impedes their use at elevated temperatures. The proposed project aims to develop**and test next-generation nanocrystalline alloys (e.g., Ni-Co-Fe, Ni-Fe-Cu, Ni-Co-Cu, Ni-Co-W) with high strength**and thermal stability for Integran Technologies.**This project will provide valuable dataset for the design of new nanocrystalline alloys, which are expected to**significantly increase strength-to-density ratios and be stable at a working temperature of ~400-600 °C.**Conventional nanocrystalline coatings cannot be used at a temperature higher than 400 °C.Such new alloys can**be used as protection coatings, which will be useful for aerospace, automobile, and relevant manufacturing**industries. The benefit of this project will lead Integran Technologies a more competitive position in global**manufacturing sectors, particularly in the metal electroplating market.
