The forest products value chain relies on the economic activities of several organisations who pursue the transformation of a heterogeneous natural resource so as to satisfy a fluctuating market. The divergent nature of the wood fibre's transformation process as well as the autonomous decision-making in each of the business units involved in the chain make the realisation of the various activities quite complex. This research program addresses the coordination and management of the forest products value chain. Its goal is to not only define mechanisms encouraging more efficient execution of transformation, sales and transportation activities, but to also measure the effect that these changes could have on the value chain's profitability and its capacity to meet market expectations. The proposed research is based on three main objectives:1- To analyse the current needs of the forest industry as well as the demand behaviour which has a direct effect on the value chain's management methods;2- To develop decision support models for value chain coordination and supply, production, sales and transportation management, adapted to the forestry context, which ensure efficient exploitation of the wood fibre and take into account client demand;3- To propose conceptual frameworks which support the deployment and exploitation of these models in the forest industry.This research will thus lead to the proposal of concrete decision-making tools in an era where protecting the forest's ecosystem has become a priority, while depicting a current portrait of the principal orientations that the industry should follow in order to reap the maximum value from this resource.
