AVT Solutions Ltd is a producer of high contrast front projection screens (Obsidian Screens). In addition, AVT Solutions has also developed a completely seamless rear-projection technology that requires only 10cm of system depth and is currently supplying product based on this technology to a customer as an art wall display. However, this display is designed for fixed images and cannot achieve video rates. The goal of this project is to develop and demonstrate a display algorithm and associated interface hardware that specifically allows for video refresh rates and that is capable of updating a LFA LED (Light Field Augmentation Light Emitting Diode) array providing digitally addressable information to the screen. A video-capable bezel-free display technology would enable AVT Solutions Ltd, for the first time, to enter video-capable, main-stream rear-projection display markets in which AVT Solutions plans to become a player. To be able to provide such display systems would offer AVT Solutions a clear competitive advantage in international markets and therefore create a new export industry.
