This project will assess the efficacy of minimal surface disturbance approaches to pipeline installation and the impact on vegetation recovery when compared to conventional, more invasive approaches. To do so we will develop tools, and methodologies, to assess vegetation recovery (structural, compositional and functional) following disturbance, across a range of forest types and terrain conditions. Once methods have been developed, we will then examine recovery across different surface disturbance approaches to assess the most effective approach with respect to vegetation recovery. These developed tools and methods will be assessed with respect to their utility as operational tools for future monitoring and assessment.
