The objective of this research study is to develop an innovative biotechnological approach for domestic and industrial wastewater treatment by aerobic granulation process. The proposed research study is designed to address the existing key challenges of the aerobic granulation while developing sustainable solutions to ensure that aerobic granulation becomes viable for actual wastewater treatment applications. The proposal covers aspects ranging from fundamental scientific research, the translation of research results, and the development of applicable technology for wastewater treatment. Five research programs, including laboratory analysis and pilot scale studies will be carried out at the Advancing Canadian Wastewater Assets (ACWA) facilities.
