My research program contributes to understand the biogeochemical functioning and importance of coastal zone groundwater connectivity. It focuses on the landaquatic continuum, with specific activities on subsurfacesurface hydrologic connectivity, biogeochemical transformations in subterranean estuaries, and pasts depositional imprint on present connectivity. The long-term objective is to improve the predictions on the response of coastal zone groundwater connectivity to global changes and the consequent effects on the oceanic system and human society over climate-relevant timescales. These researches are at the forefront of biogeochemical and hydrogeological sciences.
