Canada's huge pipe replacement and repair burden is being mitigated by buried pipe infrastructure research establishing the remaining strength of deteriorated culverts, sewer, and water pipes and their behaviour and strength after repair using liners. Improvements to understanding and design of pipe joints will extend the life of new structures. Other contributions will examine how oil, gas & water pressure pipelines are influenced by slope instabilities, ground faults, and winter or summer changes in backfill moisture. New, unique capabilities will be developed for buried pipe testing and analysis, and studies will consider conventional and trenchless pipe installation, repair and replacement.
