Nature is dynamic. There is great need for a microscopic understanding of the ultrafast molecular processes which underpin our world. This program builds on the ongoing technological revolution in Ultrafast Photonics. Our methods probe the most general processes: the ultrafast flow of charge and energy in molecules. This physics governs important processes such as Vision and Photosynthesis. Novel instruments allow us to measure these processes from the molecules perspective. We apply precise laser electric fields to molecules and materials, optically controlling quantum processes. Finally, ultrafast lasers permit real-time, label-free molecular imaging of live cells and tissues, organic and geologic materials.
