The overarching theme of the proposed research program is the design of novel materials for practical applications that lower the anthropogenic carbon footprint. Specifically, the program targets several energy-focused topics, by addressing the efficient and sustainable use, conversion, and/or storage of energy via advanced synthesis in a bottom-up approach. The program also targets the design of strongly luminescent species and their application as biomarkers and sensors for a variety of cellular processes. This program will provide crucial knowledge and strategically position Canada at the forefront of the development of essential next-generation technologies for a sustainable future of our planet.
