This*request will fund programs of the Institute of Particle Physics*(IPP), a trans-Canadian organization that promotes excellence in particle*physics research and advanced education, coordinates national and international*collaborations in particle physics research, and that serves as the focal point*for particle physics activities across Canada and a point of contact for*research partners in labs and universities around the world. ******The grant will primarily be used for*the salary of the IPP Research Scientists hosted at universities across Canada*who provide the vital, highly skilled personnel support for a wide variety of*particle physics projects. The IPP Research Scientists are critical for*enabling the faculty, students and postdocs at any Canadian university to*effectively access and scientifically exploit the most productive and highest*impact particle physics research facilities in the world.****** This grant also will support:*** - Canadian-hosted workshops, schools and*conferences intended to facilitate attendance by HQP;*** - IPP student summer fellowships enabling undergrads to participate in CERN's Summer Student Programme;***- High School Teachers to attend a CERN ProD*program;***- IPP*annual thematic workshops;*** - A program for HQP to promote new international theory collaborations; and*** - Travel associated with IPP operations******IPP, a non-profit corporation founded in*1971, is owned by the Institutional Members and operated by 16*Institutional and 200 Individual Members, almost all of whom are faculty, to promote particle physics in Canad. IPP has been funded through*NSERC since 1978, when NSERC was created by the Government of Canada. The*Institutional Members appoint a Board of Trustees, which has the legal responsibility*for the actions of the Institute. The Individual Members elect a six-member*Scientific Council, which is responsible for the scientific program and the*operation of IPP. IPP Councillors are elected for three year*staggered terms so that two IPP Councillors come off and two come on Council each*year. The IPP Council is chaired by the Director of IPP, who is appointed by*the Board of Trustees and*ratified by the Individual Members for a five year term. The IPP Members meet*annually and provide both direct and, through their elected Councillors,*indirect input into the operations of the Institute. IPP resources are*allocated by Council in a clear and transparent manner and communicated to the membership*in various ways, including via published meeting minutes.**
