Galaxies are cosmic factories for producing starlight and complex chemical elements; they are also excellent probes of the Universe over a large time-span of cosmic history. Using privileged access to very large statistical datasets (Subaru HSC Survey and its CFHT counterpart), and Hubbles successor, the James Webb Space Telescope (including Guaranteed Time Observations), this research program will investigate how galaxies form and evolve over cosmic time from the first luminous objects to have formed soon after the big bang to the grand structures we see around us in the local Universe.
