The Canada Research Chair Tier 2 in Atmospheric Biogeosciences in High Latitudes proposes to integrate leaf-, whole tree-, landscape feature-, and ecosystem-level measurements in a novel probabilistic plant functional trait-based modeling approach to enhance the ecological realism of boreal forests in Earth system models. Drawing from a broad range of expertise through well-established collaborations, the proposed research program and associate training strategies will substantially improve boreal forest representation in global initiatives and integrate (Indigenous) cultures and scientific perspectives to train the next generation of academic and non-academic high-latitude scientists and practitioners.
