Quantum fluctuations of light and matter manifest on decreasing length and time scales. With recent advances in nanotechnology and high-speed applications, we are on a collision course with the limitations set by quantum physics. The proposed Chairs main objective is to develop novel sources and detection methods for quantum photonics on short spacetime intervals. By pushing ultrafast technology into the quantum domain,the Chair aims to study materials in a new realm of quantum spectroscopy. Thesecombined objectives will allow the Chair to harness quantum effects of light-matter interaction for sustainable growth of future high-performance nanotechnologies. This program will reinforce Canadas leading international role in quantum information science.
