This research project aims at understanding the behavior of nano-composite materials in a given functionality designed for energy applications. Synergic to the design and preparation of nanomaterials and devices, emphasis is placed on developing unique methodology in tracking materials performance in situ and in operando as they are used in a device. Li and Na ion batteries, Pt based fuel cells, ternary metal sulfides for photovoltaic solar cells and non-precious metal catalysts are among the topics of investigation. Synchrotron light source that produces unprecedented bright X-rays with tunable energy will be the central focus for capability development and innovation.
