The sustainable development of Earths mineral resources promotes responsible extraction of raw-materials and metals while addressing environmental concerns. Major supply, technical, and market uncertainties affect the development and utilization of mineral resources. The proposed Chair aims at advancing elements of sustainable mineral resource development through a new risk-managing framework and smart digital technologies for holistic mine planning and production scheduling founded upon stochastic optimization and modelling of industrial mining complexes/mineral value chains. This framework drastically changes problem-solving and impacts: (i) economic performance and sustainability; (ii) risk management; (iii) enhancement of product supply; (iv) waste management and remediation; (vi) self-learning mining systems; and (vii) decision-making.
