英文摘要
The proposed Canada Research Chair in Ecohydrology will develop an internationally renowned integrative water and ecosystem science research program by understanding how drought and wildfire severity affect peatland ecosystem function and resilience. Field-based measurements experimental manipulations will be done to determine how disturbance severity affects: i) the sign and strength of ecohydrological feedbacks, and ii) post-disturbance vegetation recovery and CO2 exchange. The results from field-based research will be coupled with parameterizations of moss functional traits and a physically-based carbon-water model to assess under what conditions drought and/or wildfire drive peatland ecosystem regime shifts and potential catastrophic ecosystem collapse and carbon loss.
