Next generation (5G) wireless communication systems will accommodate a wide range of emerging services with diverse requirements, using a variety of resources and technologies to support high transmission rate and enhance quality of user experience. This CRC program will focus on efficient resource allocation, in both energy and radio spectrum, for a maximal tradeoff between network performance and energy consumption. Dr. Zhuang will develop a theoretical framework to model the tradeoff, investigate how to jointly maximize energy efficiency at both network infrastructure and user terminals, and develop novel networking protocols to efficiently support diverse applications and effectively ensure service quality.
