Many of the 3.8 million Canadians with a physical, cognitive, or sensory disability have difficulty using computer technology or find that it does not fully meet their needs. The objective of this research is to improve the inclusivity of social computing environments, with accessible interfaces that leverage tangible, ambient, or wearable technologies to improve access. These pervasive technologies embed computing power into everyday objects, and can be used to make familiar and easy-to-use interfaces to complex systems. The research results will enhance the social interaction options of a large number of older, disabled, or otherwise disadvantaged individuals.
