Mineral resources are critical to Canada's economic prosperity. Balancing the needs of industry, government and communities during resource extraction while maintaining the health of the environment remains a significant unresolved challenge. Dr. Wilson will develop new approaches to resource recovery that embed mine reclamation and environmental stewardship into mineral processing and waste management rather than separating these steps in the mining life cycle. Her work will provide a technological and societal advantage as well as forward our understanding of how small-scale interactions between minerals, microorganisms and fluids affect the evolution and health of both natural and mined landscapes.
