Dr. Gary Hinshaw, Canada Research Chair in Observational Cosmology, seeks to answerprofound questions about the origin and fate of our universe. In the past decade, he and colleagues measured the age of the universe (13.8 billion years) and established that its contents are dominated by dark matter and dark energy. To the best of our knowledge, the universe will expand forever at an ever-increasing rate. Hinshaw is building two new radio telescopes in Canada to address two outstanding enigmas in cosmology: Did cosmic inflation really occur? What is the nature of the dark energy that dominates the universe?
