Dr. Kahan uses tools from analytical and physical chemistry to answer pressing questions in atmospheric chemistry. Her proposed CRC program will investigate chemical reactions in two poorly-understood reaction media: ice surfaces and air indoors. Dr. Kahan will monitor reactions in situ at ice surfaces and will measure concentrations of molecules that affect indoor air quality. Her work will improve indoor and outdoor chemistry models and will generate novel analytical techniques. The anticipated results will benefit Canadians by improving our understanding of chemical processes that affect our health, and may inform evidence-based policy regarding anthropogenic pollutants and indoor air quality.
