This proposal recommends that the thermodynamic expertise of the principal investigator, Dr. Emily Corcoran, and the funding and support of CANDU Onwers Group (COG) be leveraged to assist and enhance the understanding and development of nuclear reactor materials while nurturing and encouraging willing talent in support of the Canadian nuclear industry initiatives. Further, Dr. Corcoran is partnered with national (Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, CNL) and international (Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives, CEA in France) collaborators that are providing technical staff and significant unleveraged financial support of her research program.
The short-term goals of the work proposed in this application are to assist the ongoing work of the nuclear industry, namely, COG WP22236 - Qualification of Siloxane Coatings and the development of an international thermodynamic database for nuclear fuel (Thermodynamics of Advanced Fuels - International Database, TAF-ID). The long-term objective is to train Highly Qualified Personnel (HQP) for employment in the Canadian nuclear industry and to create a centre of knowledge in thermodynamic nuclear materials, which can be called upon to assist the industry as required, as part of Professor Corcoran's research programs.
