Bluemix (recently renamed as IBM Cloud) is a computing platform that provides a number of programming languages and tools to create and host applications (e.g., online services offered by organisations to potential clients). In this project, our goal is to improve the platform. In particular, we will examine the architecture so as to simplify its evolution. Also, we will examine the application-monitoring capabilities in the platform's dashboard for improved response. Likewise, we will investigate ways to improve the start-up times for loading services as well as simplify customisation and extension of hosted services. Anticipated outcomes include improvement of the described technical facets of the platform. In turn, these improvements should have an impact on Canadian organisational users of the platform. The benefits to academic institutions, science and engineering include: training to several highly qualified personnel involved in this research; resultant publications in scientific journals and conferences; strengthening industry-university collaboration; and improved pedagogy on cloud and service technologies.
