The objective of the current project is to develop a rapid and efficient preparation of a library of aza-bicyclic compounds that are functionalized cores of different families of natural alkaloids. Such compounds are among privileged structures that are underexploited by the pharma industry as drug candidates. They are also recognized to improve clinical success of medicinal chemistry programs. The present proposal is an ideal match between private and academic interests: we will expand fundamental science by exploring the scope of a methodology that has just been developed, and the compounds will be used to increase chances of success of drug discovery programs run at Paraza Pharma. Such project will benefit Canadians by strengthening a leading employer and by forming highly qualified researchers, in addition to the impact on Canadian's health from eventual therapies that could come out of this research.
