This project aims to develop improved devices for detecting and locating power line breakages and investigate their use to support renewable sources in regional grids. The project expects to generate novel power protection technology and support the commercialisation of devices resulting from a previous feasibility project with Victoria’s largest power distributor. The expected outcome is the delineation of commercial-grade, programmable devices to be deployed to regional networks for enhanced monitoring. This should provide significant benefits, such as mitigating fire-ignition risk and subsequent emissions, faster power recovery times, and insights for increasing the presence of renewable generation in regional networks.
