GPRC proposes a collaborative research initiative to explore challenges related to precision agriculture technology use and adoption in northern Alberta. Specifically, we are interested in advancing knowledge and uptake in precision grazing, adapting existing technologies for use in the northern growing zone, and addressing barriers to technology adoption in northern Alberta, including smaller farm size and income, lack of access to technical expertise, and cost and access isssues for grid-tied systems in the north.Partnering with local retailers and producers, GPRC will pursue the following research objectives:- Develop a hub for technical expertise and training capacity in PA and range management technologies which regional producers can easily access - Create capacity for student training in a range of disciplines (e.g.: electrician, instrumentation, business administration, agricultural science, computer science, etc.), which will support a regional workforce that is better equipped to install, operate and service these technologies - Tailor technology solutions to the unique geographic and socioeconomic context of northern producers
