Vigorous worldwide research effort is devoted to the experimental and theoretical study of systems where conventional magnetism is inhibited by strongly competing, or frustrated, magnetic interactions at the atomic level. The Chair will apply and develop new theoretical and numerical techniques to understand and predict properties of highly frustrated magnetic and other condensed matter systems with competing interactions with an emphasis on establishing close quantitative contact between theory and experiment. This work will lead to a deeper understanding of glassy materials, systems with ¿hidden¿ order and may open avenues for applications using nanometer size magnetic films and nanoconfined polar molecules.
