Current Additive Manufacturing (AM) processes such as laser powder-fed and laser powder-bed AM processes suffer from random and environmental disturbances initiated from the process and material dependencies on thermo-mechanical deviations. The proposed research program will develop advanced monitoring devices as well as intelligent and ¿deep learning¿ control algorithms to create novel on-line quality assurance and parameters-adjustment methodologies. These novel systems and algorithms will monitor the process and intelligently change process parameters to compensate for disturbances. AM, as a strategic research area, revolutionizes the future of manufacturing. This CRC program has been conceived to substantially promote AM research in Canada.
