英文摘要
I seek groundbreaking knowledge on cardiac function in fishes. Fishes represent about 50% of all living vertebrate species and have adapted to most aquatic habitats. The heart powers the circulatory life support system, and so cardiac function greatly influences how well a fish performs in a particular environment. I will use experimental approaches that span from whole animal studies through organ and cellular level studies to discover how cardiac design is fine-tuned to permit fish to live at extremely warm temperature or with little oxygen. This basic physiological knowledge will be applied to fish conservation and fish aquaculture.
