The transportation sector accounts for 18-22% of Canada¿s GHG emissions. Global commitment to reducing emissions means massive growth potential for electric vehicle (EV) technology. One key hurdle limiting EV uptake is the limited real-world performance of EV lithium batteries, dictating range and longevity. The research comprises: 1) utilizing an innovative in-situ impedance measurement of battery cells within the Battery Management System (BMS), enabling accurate state-of-charge, state-of-health, temperature and real-time power-limit calculations during driving; 2) fully leveraging Silicon Carbide fast-switching power transistors in on-board EV battery charging systems for massive size and weight reductions.
