As Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Aquatic Ecosystems, Dr. Matthew Bogard will develop a research and training program to define the response of continental aquatic networks (lakes, streams, reservoirs) to human perturbations (changing climate, intensifying land use, and hydrologic manipulation). Field, laboratory, and model-based approaches used within natural and experimental settings will characterize how stressors interactively reshape aquatic cycling of nutrients, organic matter, and potent greenhouse gases. This research will provide new insights into the biogeochemical processes underpinning critical ecosystem services, which is needed to properly sustain and manage Canadian aquatic resources.
