Diamond mining is the principal economic driving force in Canada's north. In 2017, Canada produced $2.6 billion in diamonds, but several mines approach the end of their life spans. Finding new mines through geochemical fingerprinting requires a greater understanding of the conditions that cause diamonds to form and be preserved. To achieve this, we will address two crucial questions: (1) How do diamonds form in Earth¿s mantle and in what state is the diamond-forming carbon delivered to the mantle substrates? (2) What are the unique characteristics of ¿unconventional¿ diamond deposits and how do they translate into innovative exploration strategies?
