Software systems play a vital role in almost every aspect of our lives, but failures inevitably occur. When failures happen, diagnosing them to recover systems function is a top priority. Prolonged system downtime is costly to IT service providers, and can be deadly when systems deliver critical services such as those in automobiles, medical devices, and power stations. This research will use a novel non-intrusive approach to automate the diagnosis and resolution of software failures. This approach is more practical than previous approaches and by minimizing downtime it will yield a major impact to the computing field and to society.
