Dr. Senko¿s research program centers on making quantum computers that will be useful to society. Among the many challenges to building a quantum computer, one of the most important is overcoming the fragility of quantum information. Dr. Senko focuses on developing techniques that will enable error correction, using the most robust quantum computing hardware so far available, trapped ions. With the proposed Chair, she will create new techniques for encoding quantum information using the complex internal structure of trapped ions and for reading a subset of the quantum information encoded in a quantum computer without destroying other information.
