项目摘要
Canada hosts the largest area of glaciers outside of Greenland and Antarctica and is a leading contributor to rising sea-level due to greater warming in the high-Arctic than elsewhere. It is therefore essential that we improve our ability to anticipate glacier changes quickly. This Chair program seeks to: 1) Determine the processes controlling the total volume and chemistry of glacier runoff and 2) Develop models that provide rapid estimates of glacier runoff in regions without observations. In addition to helping predict sea-level rise, this research will reveal how changing glaciers impact the creation and alteration of Arctic landscapes, watersheds, and ecosystems.
